No Jobs If You Have A Criminal Record; Misdemeanors/Felonies

Sixty-five million Americans—or one in four adults—have a criminal record. But employers—including major companies like Bank of America, Omni Hotel, and Domino's Pizza—routinely post job ads on Craigslist that explicitly exclude such applicants, according to a new report conducted by the National Employment Law Center (NELP), a labor-affiliated advocacy group.

The practice appears in some cases to be against the law, and at a time of record long-term joblessness, advocates for the poor say it places yet another obstacle in front of people who are working to get their life back on track. In addition, there's widespread agreement that helping those with criminal records to find stable employment is crucial for preventing recidivism and preventing future crime. Indeed, that's the reason that the government runs programs designed to make it easier for ex-offenders to find work.

Perhaps most important, effectively making more than one quarter of the American workforce unemployable may be an unsustainable policy for the economy as whole.

"Candidates must be able to pass: background check (no felonies or misdemeanors)," reads one ad placed by the bailed-out banking giant Bank of America. "Do not apply with any misdemeanors/felonies," warns another. And one study last year found that 92 percent of employers said they screen some or all applicants for criminal records.

Still, the practice looks likely to grow only more common: Thanks to the tight labor market—there are currently five unemployed workers for every job opening—employers can be especially choosy about who they hire. Indeed, the EEOC is currently looking into another problem with similar roots: hiring discrimination against the unemployed.

So make sure that you pay your taxes, don't J-walk and pay you speeding tickets or your next job may not happen.

Iowa Terror Drill Focuses On White Supremacists Killing Immigrants

I remember drills and training for disasters and events growing up and in the military. What I do not remember is having a theme like they are having for an upcoming drill in Pottawattamie County Iowa this weekend at Treynor High School.

The scenario

The exercise scenario describes shootings occurring after rising tensions in the community because of an influx of minorities, Reed said. The newcomers, some who are American citizens and some who are illegal immigrants, were to have moved into a rural area from urban areas in search of more-affordable living. The newcomers are not welcomed by racial extremists, and controversy sweeps the community, he said.

I do not understand the reason even to have a scenario except to incite controversy and problems in their community. If you need a scenario how about this one; there was a shooting at a school. No problems and much easier to explain to people.

But no, the coordinator of this drill even came up with this

One of the fictional suspects involved in the shootings is described an 18-year-old white male with a quick-tempered father who is a firearms enthusiast with ties to an underground white supremacy group. A second fictional suspect is described as an isolated 17-year-old white male student who was befriended by the older student and who mimics his new friend.

"This is purely the backdrop and the setup, if you will, to help create a perception of reality for the responders," Reed said.

The exercise is intended to help improve the emergency response effort in Pottawattamie County to a crisis situation in the public schools.

Bankers Use ATM Fees To Assault The Public

"JP Morgan has started testing $5 fees in Illinois and $4 fees in Texas for withdrawals at Chase ATMs by non-Chase customers, the WSJ reported.

They aren't alone -- this is reportedly symptomatic of the whole industry, which is changing their ATM policies to earn more fees to replace the cash lost in other areas of a retail bank because of FinReg.

According to the WSJ, "Dodd-Frank is limiting some charges that banks can slap onto consumer accounts, and they’re making up for it in other ways... scrambling to replace billions of dollars in revenue expected to be lost from new federal regulations on overdraft charges and debit cards."

How depressing. The regulations installed to help the man and woman on the street, are now working against them.

And in case you think you'll be immune because you're not with Chase, apparently out of the $7.1 billion banks earned last year in fees, $3 billion was garnered from charging their own customers for using another bank's ATM."

Dirty Immigration Prosecutor Gets 17 Year Sentence

Kind of a shame that this man didn't receive the full 30 year sentence that prosecutors were asking for. Yes, defense can cry boo-hoo and claim the sentence is harsher than what some murderers get but that is comparing apples to oranges and one has nothing to do with the other. This dirty prosecutor - this officer of the court, paid to represent we the people - assisted in bringing an untold number of illegal criminals into this country to live off our system, to pose a threat to who knows how many cities and communities - we will likely never know the total damage this greedy bastard caused us. So yes, I say again, it's a damn shame that he was not sentenced to the maximum extent of the law and forced to trade 30 years of his existence in exchange for the crimes he committed against America and We The People...

There was a sentencing Monday, for a once-prominent attorney for immigration and customs enforcement.

He was convicted of taking hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes from the very people he was supposed to be prosecuting.

Constantine Kallas was a federal immigration attorney, a prosecutor. Casino surveillance video showed him about to get a $20,000 bribe to get a green card for an illegal immigrant. Kallas was convicted for this bribe and 35 other federal crimes.

Prosecutors believe Kallas received $950,000 in cash bribes over five years. In federal court Monday he was sentenced to more than 17 years in prison.

"He essentially engaged in a conspiracy as a prosecutor to engage in criminal acts with the people he was charged to prosecute," said Assistant U.S. Attorney Raymond Aghaian.

Kallas' attorney Dean Steward said the sentence was too stiff; he argued for seven years. Prosecutors wanted 30 years.

Catherine Mann-Grandy, Fred’s wife, told FoxNews.com that his contract does not expire until May 2012 and that he can’t do any radio shows in the Washington, D.C., region for another year. She also said WMAL, the radio station where Grandy was a host since 2003, is making it “very difficult” for her husband to sever his relationship with the company.

However, she said the two of them would like to eventually have a show of their own, to concentrate on the issue that effectively ended their run at WMAL – radical Islam and its influence in the United States.

“We would love to do a show devoted only to the problem of Shariah law versus the Constitution of the United States,” she said, adding that they might call it: “The Good Fight.”

Fred Grandy is best known for his role as Gopher in “The Love Boat.” Catherine, though she was not an employee at WMAL, made regular appearances on her husband’s show under the nickname “Mrs. Fred.”

Though both of them started devoting more segments to the subject of Muslim influence in America over the past year, Catherine’s on-air commentary was apparently what triggered the fallout between the Grandys and WMAL last week.

Fred Grandy was confronted by management after his wife, during a show two weeks ago, made a litany of Islam-related charges on air.

Since when is it the duty of the Federal government to force a city to accept their mandates and change their hiring standards? If Ohio wants to require that officers pass the exam with 90% it is their business and their right to set that standard for themselves. And if certain groups of people cannot pass the exam then wouldn't we be better off sending them back to study more than we are hiring uneducated morons to assist in keeping our communities safe - just to make sure that people feel good about themselves?

Someone please tell me again how 'un' racist our current DoJ is and I double-dare you to do so with a straight face. I can't think of anything more racist than to make allowances for a special interest group based on their 'persecuted' skin color. The playing field is level, if blacks can't perform up to par that is still no reason to place entire communities in danger by pandering and catering to a bunch of crybabies who didn't make the cut!

And so we continue onward with the dumbing down of America. The Dayton Police Department is lowering its testing standards for recruits.

It's a move required by the U.S. Department of Justice after it says not enough African-Americans passed the exam.  

Dayton is in desperate need of officers to replace dozens of retirees. The hiring process was postponed for months because the D.O.J. rejected the original scores provided by the Dayton Civil Service Board, which administers the test. 

Under the previous requirements, candidates had to get a 66% on part one of the exam and a 72% on part two.

The D.O.J. approved new scoring policy only requires potential police officers to get a 58% and a 63%.  That's the equivalent of an ‘F’ and a ‘D’.

 “It becomes a safety issue for the people of our community,” said Dayton Fraternal Order of Police President, Randy Beane.  “It becomes a safety issue to have an incompetent officer next to you in a life and death situation."

...The D.O.J. has forced other police departments across the country to lower testing standards, citing once again that not enough black candidates were passing.

Aasiya Z. Hassan, 37, was found dead on Thursday at the offices of Bridges TV in Orchard Park, N.Y., near Buffalo. Her husband, Muzzammil Hassan, 44, has reportedly been charged with second-degree murder. “She was very much aware of the potential ramification of her filing for divorce might have,” said attorney Elizabeth DiPirro, whose law firm represented Aasiya Hassan in the divorce proceeding. "But she wanted to proceed despite the potential for it to erupt."

Whether you call it multiculturalism or other names, it leads to chaos as suggested by Dr. Garrett Hardin and Dr. George Colburn.

Hardin suggests the adoption of multiculturalism is based on a serious misunderstanding of culture. “The definition of culture by 19th century anthropologists: "the activities of a society - that is, of its members - constitute its culture" was intended to enlarge sympathy for daily rituals around the globe. The consequences of multiculturalism are much different when many cultures are placed within a single nation (intranational multiculturalism) rather than between nations (international multiculturalism).

Capitol Chaos; Death Threats & Intolerance in WI

How pleasant to see the 'tolerant' side of the political aisle showing a bit of their true colors. Threatening to kill spouses and children simply because they aren't getting their way is about as low-class as one can get. But, considering this was likely penned by someone working in the schools, it is also cause for concern. Is this lunatic (with atrocious grammar) one of the teachers in charge of our children? Is this a janitor; possibly an off balance time bomb ready to blow the next time some brat pees on the bathroom floor?

I hope the DoJ is taking these threats seriously and working around the clock to track down the source to hold them accountable. I hope this won't be treated like the voting intimidation scandal and thrown up on the back shelf of the (leftist, biased and racist) DoJ...

The State Department of Justice confirms that it is investigating several death threats against a number of lawmakers in response to the legislature's move to strip employees of many collective bargaining rights.

Among the threats the Justice Department is investigating is one that was emailed to Republican Senators Wednesday night. Newsradio 620 WTMJ has obtained that email.

The following is the unedited email:

Please put your things in order because you will be killed and your familes

will also be killed due to your actions in the last 8 weeks. Please explain

to them that this is because if we get rid of you and your families then it

will save the rights of 300,000 people and also be able to close the deficit

that you have created. I hope you have a good time in hell. Read below for

more information on possible scenarios in which you will die.

WE want to make this perfectly clear. Because of your actions today and in

the past couple of weeks I and the group of people that are working with me

have decided that we've had enough. We feel that you and the people that

support the dictator have to die. We have tried many other ways of dealing

with your corruption but you have taken things too far and we will not stand

for it any longer. So, this is how it's going to happen: I as well as many

others know where you and your family live, it's a matter of public records.

We have all planned to assult you by arriving at your house and putting a

Prisoners Building Patriot Missiles?

This spring, the United Arab Emirates is expected to close a deal for $7 billion dollars’ worth of American arms. Nearly half of the cash will be spent on Patriot missiles, which cost as much as $5.9 million apiece.

But what makes those eye-popping sums even more shocking is that some of the workers manufacturing parts for those Patriot missiles are prisoners, earning as little as 23 cents an hour. (Credit Justin Rohrlich with the catch.)

I wonder what is going to happen when these prisoners find out that the items they are manufacturing are being sold for millions of dollars to a foreign country in the Persian Gulf. After all if you were being paid 23 cents per hour how good of a job would you do?

The work is done by Unicor, previously known as Federal Prison Industries. It’s a government-owned corporation, established during the Depression, that employs about 20,000 inmates in 70 prisons to make everything from clothing to office furniture to solar panels to military electronics.

One of the company’s high-tech specialties: Patriot missile parts. “UNICOR/FPI supplies numerous electronic components and services for guided missiles, including the Patriot Advanced Capability (PAC-3) missile,” Unicor’s website explains. “We assemble and distribute the Intermediate Frequency Processor (IFP) for the PAC-3s seeker. The IFP receives and filters radio-frequency signals that guide the missile toward its target.”

The missiles are then marketed worldwide — sometimes by Washington’s top officials. Last year, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates pitched the Patriots to the Turkish government last year, a diplomatic cable released by WikiLeaks reveals: “SecDef stressed that ‘nothing can compete with the PAC-3 when it comes to capabilities.’”

Way to go Mr. Secretary, give all the other countries around the world one of our best defense systems so one day they may use them against our military, just like in Iran and Afghanistan and a host of other countries.

Patriot assemblers Raytheon and Lockheed Martin aren’t the only defense contractors relying on prison help. As Rohrlich notes, Unicor “inmates also make cable assemblies for the McDonnell Douglas/Boeing F-15, the General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin F-16, Bell/Textron’s Cobra helicopter, as well as electro-optical equipment for the BAE Systems Bradley Fighting Vehicle’s laser rangefinder.”

Unicor used to make helmets for the military, as well. But that work was suspended when 44,000 helmets were recalled for shoddy quality.

Last year, Unicor grossed $772 million, according to its most recent financial report (.pdf). Traditionally, inmate salaries make up about five percent of that total.

1. Prince George’s County corruption: This Washington, D.C., suburb is a cesspool of corruption. County Executive Jack Johnson was recently indicted on conspiracy, extortion, and bribery charges relating to a pay-for-play scheme, taking money, trips, meals, drinks, hotel rooms, airline tickets, rounds of golf, mortgage payments, and campaign contributions from developers. Unrelated to Johnson’s scandal, Ulysses Currie—the state senator representing the Maryland county—was indicted last September for taking $245,000 in bribes. And Currie’s campaign treasurer Olivia Harris pled guilty to stealing $157,350 from Currie’s campaign account.

2. Bell , Calif. , salaries: The mayor and former city manager of Bell , Calif., along with six other city officials, were arrested last year and charged with illegally paying themselves huge salaries. Bell is a mostly Hispanic working-class town of 40,000 near Los Angeles, yet City Manager Robert Rizzo was receiving an $800,000 salary. Rizzo, booked on 53 counts of misappropriation of public funds, and the other officials were charged with taking $5.5 million from the city coffers.

3. Kickbacks for jailed kids: Former Pennsylvania juvenile court Judge Mark Ciavarella was found guilty of 12 counts of racketeering and conspiracy in February for sending youthful offenders to detention centers in exchange for $2 million in kickbacks from the builder of the for-profit facility. While the disgraced judge said the money was a “finder’s fee,” the state Supreme Court threw out thousands of juvenile convictions from Ciavarella’s court.

4. Washington, D.C., shopping spree: Harriette Walters, a tax assessments manager in Washington, D.C., was sentenced in 2009 to 78 months in prison for approving $48 million in false tax refunds, which she used to go on expensive shopping sprees and to lavish gifts on friends and family members. Walters, whose annual salary was $81,000, spent more $1.4 million at Neiman Marcus for jewelry, clothing, and designer handbags.

5. New York pension scandal: Former New York State Comptroller Alan Hevesi pleaded guilty last year to corruption charges for accepting more than $1 million in expenses, fees, and donations from a California businessman in return for allowing the businessman to earn $18 million in fees for investing $250 million of the state’s pension fund. Despite his guilty plea, Hevesi is allowed to keep his own $105,000 annual pension.

Ask yourself honestly if you want to live next door to a monstrous mosque and be jolted awake by a foreigner's call to prayer at dawn every day and ask yourself if you want to live in an area where your AMERICAN child gets taunted or expelled for wearing or displaying Our American Flag at school? What America Has To Look Forward To

U.S. Targeted EU To Accept GM Foods

- Senior U.S. officials in Paris advised the George Bush administration to launch a military-style trade war against the European Union for resisting genetically modified foods, according to newly released WikiLeaks cables.

Well Monsanto I guess is putting their political contributions to good use. Being that Monsanto is only looking out for our best interests and not their bank account.

- The then U.S. ambassador to France, Craig Stapleton, asked the government to penalize the EU and particularly countries that banned the use of genetically modified (GM) crops.

-The move came in response to a 2007 French ban on a GM corn variety made by U.S.-based company Monsanto.

What, I can't believe this! A country having the right to say no something they do not want. How dare they stop this corporation from getting even richer and full of themselves.

-The Grocery Manufacturers Association estimates about 80 per cent of packaged foods sold in the U.S. and Canada contain GM food. Some animal studies have shown serious health risks, including infertility, accelerated aging, organ damage and birth defects, linked to such foods.

Hey maybe that is the reason why France does not want GM foods in their country. The do not want three armed kids or 20 year old citizens having to use walkers to get around. Hummm silly French people.

-Other newly released cables show U.S. diplomats around the world pushed GM crops as part of U.S. global food policy.

-For example, the U.S. applied pressure to the Pope's advisers to champion such crops to counter the opposition by many Catholic bishops in developing countries who were vehemently opposed to it.

Okay that does it...when the Catholic people are used to inspire developing countries to use GM crops the gloves come off. Now, if I was only able to get these gloves off with the two fingers I was born with.....

Jeffrey Smith, executive director of the Institute for Responsible Technology notes how he’s been saying for years that the United States government is joined at the hip with Monsanto, pushing GMOs as part of Monsanto’s agenda on the rest of the world.

“This lays bare,” notes Smith, “the mechanics of that effort. We have Craig Stapleton, the former ambassador to France, specifically asking the U.S. government to retaliate and cause some harm throughout the European Union. And then, two years later, in 2009, we have a cable from the ambassador to Spain from the United States asking for intervention there, asking the government to help formulate a biotech strategy and support the government—members of the government in Spain that want to promote GMOs, as well. And here, they specifically indicate that they sat with the director of Monsanto for the region and got briefed by him about the politics of the region and created strategies with him to promote the GMO agenda.”

Because of a lawsuit, 44,000 secret internal FDA memos revealed that that policy was a lie. “Not only were the scientists at the FDA aware that GMOs were different, they had warned repeatedly that they might create allergies, toxins, new diseases and nutritional problems. But they were ignored, and their warnings were even denied, and the policy went forth allowing the deployment GMOs into the food supply with virtually no safety studies.”
